  • Food Donation to Msamaria Centre (03.11.2009). We have donated food again to the kids of Msamaria Centre. Read the letter of thanks.

  • Food Donation to the Kilimanjaro Centre for Orphans and Street Children (02.09.2009): On September 2nd, 2009, ZARA Charity gave over $300 in food donations to the Kilimanjaro Centre for Orphans and Street Children in order to help them from a temporary food shortage. Without the necessary amount of food and nutrition, children cannot reach their full potential. Thus helping to provide a steady supply of food to insure that children are receiving the nutrition they need is crucial to helping develop and sustain the children's bright futures. • Donation to Buy Books and Other Educational Materials for the School of the Mwema Centre for Street Children (24.08.2009): On August 24th, 2009, many donors from around the world and clients from ZARA Charity and Highview Hotel contributed over $120 to buy books and other educational materials for the school of the Mwema Centre for Street Children in Karatu. As a result of this donation, the Mwema Street Children Centre was able to buy new science books, diagrams, and other educational materials that will enhance the learning and education of all the children in the school. Click on the following link to read the letter of thanks (PDF, 412 kb) from the Mwema Street Children to all of these most generous donors (pictures included!). Education is the key to advancement and a better life, and just a small donation can go a long way. So please consider helping other children get a better education so that they too can reach their full potential!

  • Mosquito Net and Food Donation to the Women of the Huruma Women Group (14.08.2009): On August 24th, 2009, ZARA Charity donated food and mosquito nets to the Huruma Women Group  in order to support their health and protection from mosquitos and malaria. These mosquito nets are vitally important to the Huruma Women Group because they protect against the transmission of malaria through mosquitos, the most common source of the illness. In a country where Malaria kills one Tanzanian every 5 minutes, these nets are a life saving donation. Also very important is the donation of food to these women. This food allows the women to live a better, more healthy life while allowing them to focus on developing themselves instead of worrying about where they will get their next meal. You can see pictures (PDF, 3 MB) of the Huruma Women Group receiving mosquito nets and food from the contribution of ZARA Charity (14.08.2009).

  • Food Donation to the Children of the Msamaria Centre (16.07.2009): On July 16th, 2009, ZARA Charity contributed hundreds of dollars to the Msamaria Centre to provide the children with food for the upcoming months. This kind of support for orphans is vital to their healthy growth and development. Without a steady supply of food, the children can become malnourished and will not be able to reach their full potential. So please read the letter of thanks (PDF, 1 MB) from Msamaria Centre to ZARA Charity (16.07.2009) and consider helping to support these children!

  • University of Georgia Service Learning Project (09.05.2009 - 02.06.2009): In one of the first projects completed through ZARA Charity, a group of students from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, U.S.A., come to the aid of the orphans and staff members of the Kilimanjaro Centre for Orphans and Street Children. The students stayed for a total of 4 weeks from May 9 to June 2, 2009. During this time they contributed to the orphanage in both tangible and intangible ways. Physically, the UGA group funded and built an extension to the chicken coup that the orphanage maintained. The expansion enabled the coup to hold 150 more chickens than the existing coup, and has begun to help offset the costs of running the orphanage. In fact, whereas the old chicken coup alone paid only for the facilities power bill, the additional 150 chickens are now paying for 20% of the orphanage’s food costs per month! The students also helped the Kilimanjaro Centre for Orphans and Street Children by assisting in classroom instruction. They helped to teach the children Math and English while the children taught them Swahili and traditional Tanzanian children’s games. So not only did these philanthropic students enjoy the pleasure of helping others in need, but they also got to interact with and learn some of the Swahili language and Tanzanian culture first hand! There are all kinds of ways you can give and help others so there is always something to match everyone’s interests and abilities. So, if you want the pleasure of helping others, and would like to learn something new, please support ZARA Charity and the children of Tanzania. The experience will change your life for the better in ways that you could never have imagined!
Karibu Football Match (05.02.2009): On May 2nd, 2009, ZARA Charity hosted a football match between the mountain guides and porters and the other surrounding tour companies. Throughout the day, ZARA Charity provided free transportation, clothing, and food. The goal of this match was to improve and strengthen relationships between all guides, porters, and tour companies, and to provide an opportunity for all of the guides and porters to compete, and stay in shape during the low season. The match also assisted them during the low season while many are out of work by providing the free food and clothing. Thus all of these things have helped to make the Moshi and Arusha communities a closer, happier place. Please view the ZARA Charity report (DOC, 2 MB) on the Karibu Football match for more details.
